Why is it so hard for people to believe that computers need maintenance and sometimes their parts break? They have no problem taking their car in for maintenance or fixing it when it breaks down. And, usually, they are smart enough to know they need to rely on an expert to diagnose and fix it for them.
My mom's 3 year old POS laptop is starting to die and she thinks it is because of a utility I installed the last time she was here.
Me: that little program is not going to crash your system
Mom: because that program still runs, it's just not visible when I turn it off
Me: uh no
Me: you turn it off
Me: it isn't running anywhere
The woman plays solitaire and bridge on this computer many hours a day, checks her email and chats/Skypes with her family here in the US and won't pay to get it fixed. The damn thing was free to her to start with. Sigh.
